Lena - Think Pink Guardian by ReflectionsByIce Lena - Think Pink Guardian by ReflectionsByIce
This is Lena a Think Pink Guardian Angel

She's my entry for the Artisan Crafts category in the Think Pink V contest. [link]

She's had a complete facial repaint where all her original factory paint was removed, and then lovingly repainted with artist quality acrylics. Her hair is styled with two simple lace braids on the sides that join together with a hand beaded barrette. A closeup can be found here

Her wings were created with tons of hand picked white feathers, and is securely fastened to the doll.

The design on her corsette was tooled into very thin tooling leather and then the entire piece was painted pearlized white and & the design in deep pink. Tooling a think pink ribbon that small was a challenge! *grin* It laces up on the side with gorgeous nylon thread through tiny silver eyelets. Her skirt is made from a gorgeous pink crepe that has been hand embroidered with a blanket stitch.

For her shoes, I made her viking/guille boots from thin silver leather & painted the edges pink. A closeup of them can be seen here...

I named her after my grandmother, who lost her battle with cancer way before I was even born. She's always been my Guardian Angel.

Guess you can't even *leave* a critique without having a premium account. :P

Well....

First of all, this doll is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous!! The costume is well-thought out and executed, constructed well. The wings look great!! You *tooled* the bodice, that still shocks me [would like to know *how*. Didn't think they had many stamps in that small a scale...LOL], and would love to know *what* you used to color it, as I didn't think there was any pearlized paints usable for leather.

Really, I only have two problems with this one....and they're a bit of an IMO anyway. :D

I noticed on the close-up that the left side of the mouth looked a little...well, clumpy might be the wrong word, but you can tell more on the left than on the right that it was a repaint. Of course, I know what a pain in the BUTT pearlized acrylic can be [yes, I've actually painted with it myself, even if it *was* waaay back in high school...LOL], and it might just be glaringly obvious only to me. >_<;

The other is that with all the other gorgeous detail, her wrists look a little bare. The ties keep a necklace from being strictly necessary [although if it were me I *might* have put a choker on her, but that might have made it a bit overdone. O_o], but the wrists are almost like "I'm naked!!", especially considering the way the urr...sleeve-thing? [geez, don't know the technical term for that...LOL] doesn't attach to the lower arm in any way, so the way it drapes it leaves most of the arm bare.

One other thing, and this IS strictly an "I wanna SEE!!", it would have been cool to have a shot of the back of her head, so we could see the barrette that's holding her hair. ^_^

All in all, gorgeous, GORGEOUS piece!! [and one more "I LOVE THE SHOES!!!" *G*]

Thank-you for the critique, EevilOverlord!

You are right in that they don't make stamps that small. I tooled it using a stylus and carved the design into the leather. As for paint, I use an acrylic fabric paint called "Lumiere" and can be purchased from this place... [link] It works beautifully on leather, although any acrylic paint will work too. I get my tiny eyelets from that same place too.

Absolutely gorgeous, as always. I'm not a big fan of the color pink, but this is lovely. I love the corset design. And the shoes.

I'm sorry about your grandma. I lost my great-grandma to cancer. But my guardian angel is my grandpa, who died of a heart attack when I was maybe six.

Thank you, it's from my submission into the contest. Good luck! You did a brilliant job customizing this, and I love even the use of Barbie, the symbol of an "idealized woman" we were all raised to believe we should be like.
